Salt Lake City, Utah, August 25, 2026. The organizers of Geo Week (https://www.geo-week.com) have announced that applications are now open for the GEO Empower Event Scholarship , a program for university students seeking to apply geospatial, surveying, mapping, and 3D technologies to socially and environmentally beneficial ends.
Now in its third year, the initiative offers recipients a complete participation package: full access to the conference program, hotel accommodation, a travel stipend, and onsite mentorship throughout the event, scheduled for February 23–25, 2027 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.
"The GEO Empower Scholarship has connected us with some of the most talented and passionate students in the geospatial field, and we are proud to grow this program as part of our workforce development initiatives," said Lora Burns, Senior Marketing Manager at Geo Week. "Demand for geospatial talent is growing faster than qualified graduates entering the field, and this scholarship is one of the most direct ways we can invest in closing that gap. Students who attend Geo Week are exposed to one of the largest and most impactful geospatial conferences in the world, and we need the next generation to physically be there, in person, to connect with the opportunities, ideas, and hands-on product demonstrations that will define their careers."
A Committee for the Industry's Generational Renewal
The scholarship now sits within a broader workforce development strategy through which Geo Week intends to address the geospatial talent pipeline gap in a structural way. Central to the effort is the newly established Geo Week Workforce Development Committee, a volunteer advisory body of industry professionals, educators, and advocates tasked with shaping event content, career development opportunities, and student outreach. Companies and organizations across the sector can further support the program through tiered sponsorship packages designed to sustain and expand the GEO Empower Scholarship over time.
Eligibility and Deadlines
The call is open to students currently enrolled at universities in the United States, selected on the strength of their motivation to use geospatial technology for positive social and environmental impact. Recipients will attend Geo Week with all major costs covered, gain access to conference sessions and meetings with industry leaders, and be recognized at a dedicated onsite ceremony. Applications are due by October 30, 2026; full eligibility requirements and application details are available on the GEO Empower Event Scholarship page (https://www.geo-week.com/geo-empower-scholarship/).
